Copt Eye Drops are indicated for the treatment of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or pseudoexfoliative glaucoma when topical beta-blocker monotherapy is not sufficient. Dorzolamide (a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor) and Timolol (a beta-blocker) work through different mechanisms to decrease the production of aqueous humor (fluid) in the eye, thereby lowering internal eye pressure.
Do not use Copt Eye Drops if you have a history of asthma, severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or serious heart conditions (such as a slow heartbeat or heart failure), as the Timolol component can be absorbed into the bloodstream and affect breathing or heart rate. If you experience shortness of breath, chest pain, or severe dizziness, stop use and seek medical attention immediately.
Wash your hands thoroughly before use. Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket, and instill one drop into the affected eye(s) twice daily (usually morning and evening). After applying the drop, press a finger into the corner of the eye (near the nose) for 2 minutes to minimize systemic absorption.
Note: If you use other eye drops, wait at least 10 minutes between instillations. Remove contact lenses before application and wait 15 minutes before reinserting them, as the preservative in the drops may discolor soft lenses.
The most common side effects include a temporary bitter taste in the mouth, stinging or burning in the eye immediately after application, blurred vision, or eye redness.
