Moxiget Injection is a high-potency, broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic containing Moxifloxacin. It is designed for intravenous (IV) administration to treat severe or life-threatening bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV—enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication and repair—effectively killing a wide range of Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and anaerobic bacteria.
Product Type: Fluoroquinolone Antibiotic (Intravenous)
Active Ingredient: Moxifloxacin (400mg / 250ml)
Manufacturer: Getz Pharma
Pack Size: 250ml Ready-to-Use Infusion Bag/Bottle
Route: Intravenous (IV) Infusion
Availability: Strictly Prescription Required (POM) — Hospital Use Only
Suitable For: Adults with severe respiratory or skin infections
Moxiget is typically reserved for serious infections where oral therapy is either insufficient or not possible:
Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP): Including cases caused by multi-drug resistant strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Complicated Skin and Skin Structure Infections (cSSSI): Treating deep-seated infections, including diabetic foot infections.
Complicated Intra-abdominal Infections: Including abscesses caused by a mix of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.
Acute Bacterial Sinusitis: When other first-line treatments have failed.
Sequential Therapy: Often used to stabilize a patient before transitioning to Moxiget 400mg Tablets for home recovery.
Tendon Rupture: Fluoroquinolones are associated with an increased risk of tendonitis and tendon rupture (especially the Achilles tendon). This risk is higher in elderly patients, those taking corticosteroids, or those with kidney/heart transplants. Myasthenia Gravis: Moxifloxacin may exacerbate muscle weakness in persons with myasthenia gravis. QT Prolongation: This medication can affect heart rhythm. Use with caution if you have a history of prolonged QT interval or uncorrected hypokalemia. Nerve Damage: Permanent peripheral neuropathy (tingling/numbness) can occur. Mental Health: Serious side effects including confusion, hallucinations, and anxiety have been reported.
Moxiget Injection must be administered by a qualified healthcare professional in a clinical setting.
Administration Protocols:
Method: Intravenous infusion only. Do not administer by bolus or rapid injection.
Duration: The 250ml infusion should be administered slowly over a period of 60 minutes.
Dosage: The standard dose is 400mg once every 24 hours.
Compatibility: It is a "ready-to-use" solution. Do not mix other medications in the same IV bag unless compatibility is confirmed by the pharmacist.
Observation: The patient must be monitored for signs of an allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) during the first 15–30 minutes of the infusion.
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, and pain or inflammation at the injection site. Some patients may experience a change in taste (metallic taste). If the patient experiences sudden pain in a joint, severe diarrhea (C. diff), or a skin rash, the infusion must be stopped immediately.
Store at controlled room temperature below 30°C. Do not refrigerate or freeze, as this may cause the solution to crystallize. Store in the original outer carton to protect it from light. Inspect the solution before use; it should be clear and free of particles.
Q: Can I switch to tablets after the injection?
A: Yes. Moxifloxacin has excellent "bioavailability," meaning the 400mg tablet is as effective as the 400mg injection. Doctors often switch to Moxiget Tablets once the patient can swallow and is clinically stable.
Q: Is it safe for children?
A: No. Moxifloxacin is generally not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 due to potential effects on developing cartilage and joints.
Q: Can it be used for a "Simple Cold"?
A: No. Moxiget is a powerful antibiotic meant for serious bacterial infections. It will not work on viral infections like the flu or common cold.
Q: Should I worry about the sun?
A: Yes. Like all fluoroquinolones, Moxifloxacin increases sun sensitivity. Avoid tanning beds and use high-SPF sunscreen during and for several days after treatment.
