Rhinathiol Children Expectorant

Description:

Rhinathiol Children is a trusted, raspberry-and-cherry flavored syrup specifically formulated to help children clear mucus from their airways. It contains Carbocisteine, a powerful mucolytic agent. Unlike cough suppressants that stop a cough, Rhinathiol works by thinning and "breaking up" thick, sticky phlegm (mucus). This makes the mucus less viscous and much easier for the child to cough up, clearing the bronchial tubes and making breathing more comfortable.

What Is Rhinathiol Children Used For?

Rhinathiol is indicated for the treatment of respiratory disorders characterized by excessive or thick mucus. It is particularly effective for:

  1. Chesty (Productive) Coughs: Helping the child expel the phlegm that causes a "rattling" sound in the chest.

  2. Bronchitis: Reducing the thickness of mucus during acute bronchial infections.

  3. Congestion Relief: Clearing the airways so the child can breathe and sleep more easily.

  4. Post-Infection Recovery: Helping the lungs clear out remaining mucus after a cold or flu has passed.

⚠️ Important Safety Warning

Age Restriction: Do not give Rhinathiol to children under 2 years of age, as they cannot cough effectively enough to clear the thinned mucus, which may lead to airway obstruction. Not for Dry Coughs: If your child has a tickly, dry cough with no phlegm, this medicine is not appropriate. Stomach Ulcers: Use with caution if the child has a history of stomach or intestinal ulcers. Diabetic Note: This syrup contains sucrose. If your child has a sugar intolerance or diabetes, consult our pharmacist before use.

How to Use

Dosage is based on the child's age. Always use the measuring device provided in the box.

Standard Dosage Guidelines:

  • Children 2 to 5 years: One 5ml measuring spoonful twice daily.

  • Children over 5 years: One 5ml measuring spoonful three times daily.

Application Tips:

  • Hydration: Encourage your child to drink plenty of water while taking Rhinathiol. Fluids help the Carbocisteine work better at thinning the mucus.

  • Timing: Avoid giving the last dose immediately before bedtime. It is better to give it at least 1 to 2 hours before sleep so the child has time to cough up the loosened mucus before lying down.

  • Duration: Do not use for more than 8 to 10 days without consulting a doctor.

Common Side Effects

Rhinathiol is generally well-tolerated. Some children may experience mild digestive upset, such as nausea, diarrhea, or stomach pain. Rarely, a skin rash may occur. If your child develops swelling of the face, difficulty breathing, or dark, "tarry" stools, stop the medication immediately and seek medical attention.

Storage Instructions

Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C, away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Ensure the cap is tightly closed after every use. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Can I give this with "Paracetamol"?

A: Yes. Rhinathiol does not interact with Paracetamol (Panadol/Calpol). It is safe to use both if the child also has a fever.

Q: Why is my child coughing more after taking it?

A: This is actually a sign the medicine is working. Because the mucus is now thinner, the body’s natural reflex is to cough it out. This "productive" coughing is necessary to clear the chest.

Q: Can I mix it with another cough syrup?

A: No. Never mix Rhinathiol with a "Cough Suppressant" (antitussive). Suppressants stop the coughing reflex, which would trap the thinned mucus in the lungs and could lead to a chest infection.

Q: Does it contain alcohol?

A: No. Rhinathiol Children is alcohol-free and formulated specifically for pediatric safety.
