Valvas is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled on monotherapy. Amlodipine works by inhibiting the entry of calcium into the smooth muscle cells of the heart and blood vessels, causing them to relax. Valsartan blocks the action of angiotensin II, a natural substance that causes blood vessels to tighten. Together, they improve blood flow and lower systemic vascular resistance.
DO NOT USE VALVAS IF YOU ARE PREGNANT. If pregnancy is detected, Valvas should be discontinued as soon as possible. The Valsartan component can cause serious injury or death to the developing fetus when used in the second and third trimesters. Additionally, avoid using this medication if you have severe kidney or liver disease, or if you are taking medications containing Aliskiren (especially if you have diabetes).
Take one tablet daily, with or without food, preferably at the same time each day (usually in the morning). Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. It is important to continue taking Valvas even if you feel well, as high blood pressure often has no visible symptoms.
Note: Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while taking Valvas, as it can increase the concentration of Amlodipine in your blood and lead to an unpredictable drop in blood pressure.
Common side effects include swelling of the ankles or feet (edema), dizziness, headache, and fatigue. Some users may experience a dry cough or a "flushing" sensation. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of an allergic reaction (swelling of the face/tongue) or severe dizziness indicating excessively low blood pressure (hypotension).
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tablets in their original blister packaging until use. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use beyond the expiry date printed on the pack.
Q: Can I stop taking Valvas once my blood pressure is normal?
